Life in the time of Corona – a Mum’s perspective

February 13, 2020 By: Mehroo3 Comments

This is one title that I didn’t have to break my head over as it flowed out naturally when I started writing. “Corona” – Unless you happen to live in a surreal world, meditating peacefully in a hut on the Himalayas, blissfully unaware of the turmoil that the world is going through, you would know… {Read More}

Noel

February 8, 2020 By: Mehroo2 Comments

He came into our lives in the early morning hours of December 25, 2019. My son was sitting in the balcony sobbing his heart out about Santa not giving him “nice” gifts. True that I always go out of my way to make sure that Santa knows exactly what my boys want and true that… {Read More}

“What should I post on Facebook?”

October 18, 2017 By: Mehroocomment

Honestly I did not realise how difficult it would be to get back to my “virtual” life! I’ve been off Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for over 3 weeks now. Yes it was intentional- to give myself some space, some room to breathe, some time to think, some thoughts to reflect upon – without having the… {Read More}

Going Grey

October 1, 2016 By: Mehroo10 Comments

There are so many ways in which I would like to start this post. Talk about beauty, experience, age, emotions, life, colour. Grey colour? Is it even a colour or merely a shade? Does it represent uncertainty or indifference, age or maturity, boredum or modesty? Not a favourite colour for many, certainly not mine and yet why… {Read More}

4 years old!

May 19, 2016 By: Mehroocomment

They say when kids are young time  just flies and it couldn’t be more true. I feel like I just have to blink my eyes for the months to rush by! Was it really 4 years ago that I gave birth to this blog? Almost 5 years since we’re here in Hong Kong? And 9… {Read More}

Sometimes you win sometimes you learn

April 15, 2016 By: Mehroocomment

For my mother who recently lost the BPP (Bombay Parsi Panchayet) elections in Mumbai. I feel quite frustrated and alienated that I can’t be with her physically, so the next best thing is to put my feelings into words. Mummy, don’t feel sad It’s not YOUR loss I would say, For I know the truth and… {Read More}

The power of music

December 7, 2015 By: Mehroo1 Comment

Are you among those people who can close your eyes, lean back and get transported to a different world, while an old, deeply cherished memory awakens within you, as you listen to the tunes of a favourite song? If yes then join the gang!  I sit here, all by myself, in a ferry, smiling away… {Read More}

Restless

January 9, 2015 By: Mehroo8 Comments

Sitting on my perch On this cloudy, misty day I look out at the sea In a confused sort of way The thoughts that I have Are weird but true The more I seem to achieve The more I want to do. Is it just me Or the greed of human nature Happiness is short-lived… {Read More}

Turning 40

January 1, 2015 By: Mehroo16 Comments

It’s so strange that sometimes when you really want to write about something, when you try your very best to put your thoughts down on paper, nothing significant comes out.    It’s frustrating! I have been trying to write about ‘Turning 40’ since the past one week and every attempt of mine leads to incoherent… {Read More}

7 ways to beat the blues

October 6, 2014 By: Mehroocomment

Its Monday morning. A perfectly bright, sunny day. Kids at school, husband in office, leaving a good part of the day free for me, to do what I choose to do. I can hear the birds chirping, toddlers laughing as they splash about in the pool, ships sounding their sirens in the distance, a perfectly… {Read More}

When you take the same route every day You tend to When you take the same route every day
You tend to lose sight of the details,
The flower that just bloomed
The leaf that just fell
You're oblivious to the present
Your mind is overworked
With baggage from the past
And future that is yet to occur.

Today I said STOP
I woke up at 5:45 this morning. My head filled wit I woke up at 5:45 this morning. My head filled with Sabs.

Saboteurs or Sabs as we ”lovingly” call them in our family are the negative voices in our head that tend to overwhelm or sabotage us. They are the relentless inner critics that often overpower and undermine us. Typically, I assert control over my mind, not letting them overpower me, centering myself on my senses….but not today.

Boredom brings brilliance, ....taps into the reces Boredom brings brilliance,
....taps into the recesses of our sub-conscious mind to bring about #creativity and #curiosity. But I also think that boredom could also lead us to dark dungeons of the past or apprehensions about the future, and if these thoughts are not controlled, they can lead to overwhelm and stress.

Taking control of our thoughts becomes so important specially in the 45-sec attention span that we have.

Self-command, that is taking control of our own mind, in this fast-paced, tech driven world becomes not only important, but a necessity.

Here are some examples of how you can practice command over your mind while still at work

- Take a walk to get your coffee (focus solely on your feet and the steps you are taking)

- Zone out of your computer by closing your eyes and taking two deep breaths, really focusing on the inhale-exhale pattern

- Stare out of the window or stare into your laptop - really focusing on one thing and one thing only.

- Close your eyes for ten seconds when you are having your lunch, and really taste your food or hear the ambient sounds around you.

Just focus on your senses every few hours and see how differently you tend to handle your day and the challenges that are thrown in front of you.

Have a great week ahead!

In the chaos and constant stimulation of our world In the chaos and constant stimulation of our world, the mind often finds itself caught up in a whirlwind of thoughts, worries, and distractions. It seems as if it never rests, always churning with an incessant stream of internal dialogue. But amidst this perpetual motion, there lies a profound and transformative power—𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱

Imagine a vast, serene lake reflecting the beauty of its surroundings. Its surface is undisturbed, allowing the depths below to reveal their hidden treasures. In much the same way, the mind possesses an inherent stillness that, when cultivated, can lead to immense 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆.

Yet, achieving this stillness is no easy task. It requires practice, patience, and a gentle surrender to the present moment. We must 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗴𝗼 of our attachments, expectations, and the constant need to control. Only then can we begin to peel away the layers of mental noise and enter into a state of profound tranquility.

In this stillness, we discover that 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘂𝘀. We are not limited to the boundaries of our transient emotions or fleeting desires. Instead, we tap into the potential of pure awareness—an expansive, timeless space where the mind can rest and rejuvenate.

I often say that 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿, flowing, moving, splashing, having fun, but once in a while, the river needs to slow down and pause at an interim lake or pool to replenish its energy and nourish its waters. The pausing is not an end to its journey but a necessary part of its flow.

Learn to attain this stillness once every few hours. It will not take up your time, rather it will be the best investment of your time, as you get back to your work with renewed energy, vigour and creativity.
