Now that’s what I call a friend!

December 24, 2012 By: Mehroocomment

Out of the blue
In the middle of the day
I get a call from my school friend
“I am coming your way!”

I try to explain
I don’t want to be rude
“My house is too tiny
Staying here will be no good.”

“Oh don’t worry honey,
I will be saving my husband’s money
We could all adjust
But stay with you I must!”

At her wedding

The day came so soon

I was still fretting about the space
When in barged my friend
Like it was her own place!

After the kisses and the cuddles
When the boys settled in their room
Into the kitchen she charged
“Show me where’s your broom?”

The house was being cleaned

I couldn’t believe what I saw,
She started chopping the onions
I was left gaping with awe!

Is she really the same girl
Who in a game of throw ball,
For fear of her perfect nails being chipped
Would let the ball fall?

She has trained her kids well
To eat what’s in their plate
But back then in school
Chocolate was all she ever ate!

She commands her boys
To be prim and proper,
But forgets that in school
Her pinafore was always slipping down her shoulder!

Now I do get house guests now and then
Both family and friends,
But when you have your school mate staying
The fun just never ends!

We roamed through the streets
Posing for a photo at every corner
We chatted in buses and coffee shops
Doing mehendi for each other.

When it came to shopping
Hermes could take a walk,
We wanted handbags that could carry things
And not clutches justย to talk!

‘Cause its only with a school friend
That you can leave your pretensions behind
And its only with your best friend
That you can you be you all the time.

Soon it was time for her to leave
4 short days were over,
Bags were packed at super speed
There was no room for disorder.

And as we saw the bus approaching
We paused a moment to look at each other,
Our attention soon diverted by echoing “Mummy! Mummy!”
2 young girls turned into 2 super-mothers!ย

Mehroo what an absolutely lovely ode to a friend ๐Ÿ™‚ and it does sound like a perfect friendship. Where no matter how long you meet after, it seems like no more than a day and you can pick-up exactly where you left off!

Hey Reena, I am beaming and blushing! Thank you for all the nice compliments and the 'love, love, love'! I started writing this one in a bus one day coming back from Causeway Bay, it flowed so beautifully as I was giggling and typing away at jet speed. 3 paras later, my stop came but the same thought-flow never came back. It took me 2 long weeks to finish the rest with a lot of effort. Glad you liked it.

When you take the same route every day You tend to When you take the same route every day
You tend to lose sight of the details,
The flower that just bloomed
The leaf that just fell
You're oblivious to the present
Your mind is overworked
With baggage from the past

Today I said STOP

Saboteurs or Sabs as we โ€lovinglyโ€ call them in our family are the negative voices in our head that tend to overwhelm or sabotage us. They are theย relentless inner criticsย that often overpower and undermine us. Typically, I assert control over my mind, not letting them overpower me, centering myself on my sensesโ€ฆ.but not today.

Boredom brings brilliance, ....taps into the reces Boredom brings brilliance,
....taps into the recesses of our sub-conscious mind to bring about #creativity and #curiosity. But I also think that boredom could also lead us to dark dungeons of the past or apprehensions about the future, and if these thoughts are not controlled, they can lead to overwhelm and stress.

Taking control of our thoughts becomes so important specially in the 45-sec attention span that we have.

Self-command, that is taking control of our own mind, in this fast-paced, tech driven world becomes not only important, but a necessity.

Here are some examples of how you can practice command over your mind while still at work

- Take a walk to get your coffee (focus solely on your feet and the steps you are taking)

- Zone out of your computer by closing your eyes and taking two deep breaths, really focusing on the inhale-exhale pattern

- Stare out of the window or stare into your laptop - really focusing on one thing and one thing only.

- Close your eyes for ten seconds when you are having your lunch, and really taste your food or hear the ambient sounds around you.

Just focus on your senses every few hours and see how differently you tend to handle your day and the challenges that are thrown in front of you.

Have a great week ahead!

In the chaos and constant stimulation of our world In the chaos and constant stimulation of our world, the mind often finds itself caught up in a whirlwind of thoughts, worries, and distractions. It seems as if it never rests, always churning with an incessant stream of internal dialogue. But amidst this perpetual motion, there lies a profound and transformative powerโ€”๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฑ

Imagine a vast, serene lake reflecting the beauty of its surroundings. Its surface is undisturbed, allowing the depths below to reveal their hidden treasures. In much the same way, the mind possesses an inherent stillness that, when cultivated, can lead to immense

Yet, achieving this stillness is no easy task. It requires practice, patience, and a gentle surrender to the present moment. We must ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ด๐—ผ of our attachments, expectations, and the constant need to control. Only then can we begin to peel away the layers of mental noise and enter into a state of profound tranquility.

In this stillness, we discover that We are not limited to the boundaries of our transient emotions or fleeting desires. Instead, we tap into the potential of pure awarenessโ€”an expansive, timeless space where the mind can rest and rejuvenate.

I often say that ๐—œ ๐—ฎ๐—บ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ, flowing, moving, splashing, having fun, but once in a while, the river needs to slow down and pause at an interim lake or pool to replenish its energy and nourish its waters. The pausing is not an end to its journey but a necessary part of its flow.

Learn to attain this stillness once every few hours. It will not take up your time, rather it will be the best investment of your time, as you get back to your work with renewed energy, vigour and creativity.
